RCM Briefing – Report of the TUC Women's Conference, March 2018
RCM delegates attended the TUC Women’s Conference from 7-9 March this year to ‘Celebrate 150 Years: fighting for women’. We joined delegates from a wide range of TUC affiliate unions including other health workers such as physios, podiatrists and dieticians.
The RCM delegation was made up of:
- Alice Sorby, Employment Relations Advisor
- Natalie Lindor, RCM Board Member
- Julie Boyd, RCM Workplace Representative
- Judith Green, RCM Workplace Representative
The RCM’s two motions to the conference were, Fair Pay Overdue and Flexible Working in the NHS which were passed unanimously. We also seconded an NUJ Motion Self Employed mums, inequality in maternity pay which was also passed.
The RCM members all made speeches and were able to support motions close to their hearts speaking about their own experiences as midwives.
Natalie Lindor was re-elected to the TUC Women’s Committee which organises the conference.
We all really enjoyed the conference and left feeling very inspired by the fantastic trade union activists we heard from. All the delegates said they would recommend other RCM members put themselves forward for future TUC conferences.
